The interior of Persian Delight Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

Authentic flavours and family-friendly dining

If you’re hunting for an authentic taste of Persia in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Persian Delight is a gem worth discovering. The restaurant combines traditional Persian flavours with a welcoming, relaxed environment, making it an ideal spot for families, first-timers, and anyone curious about Iranian cuisine.

Kebabs with character

Newcastle’s food scene is famously diverse, but Persian Delight takes the humble kebab up a notch. Here, saffron-marinated meats, fragrant spices, and careful cooking techniques transform simple dishes into something memorable. After seven years of serving locals and visitors alike, the restaurant has built a reputation for fresh, flavourful dishes that won’t break the bank. Bonus points for the cardamom-infused tea that drifts through the air.

“Persian Delight feels like stepping into a warm Persian home, where every flavour tells a story.”

A space for families

One of Persian Delight’s strongest draws is its family-friendly atmosphere. The setting is informal, so you don’t need a reservation, and the staff are genuinely attentive to children and buggies. Families can relax, enjoy the food, and experience Persian hospitality without the usual stress of dining out with little ones.

“Cyrus’s eyes lit up when the fresh flatbread arrived, small moments like this make all the difference for family dining.”

Art, culture, and the Faravahar

The décor cleverly blends Persian tradition with contemporary touches. A standout piece is the Faravahar artwork, symbolising “good words, good thoughts, good deeds,” which adds a thoughtful, cultural layer to your visit. It’s the kind of detail that makes dining here feel not just like a meal, but a mini cultural immersion.

The menu: from appetisers to main courses

Our meal began with freshly baked naan and kashk-e bademjan, a dish of fried aubergine, onions, garlic, mint, tomato puree, and kashk (Middle Eastern whey). The flavours were layered, rich, and beautifully balanced, a perfect introduction to Persian cuisine.

For the main course, I chose the jujeh kebab: tender saffron-marinated baby chicken served with lime and grilled tomato. Occasionally, the dish is complemented with narenj, a wild bitter orange, which adds a distinctive twist. My dining companion opted for the Soltani, a generous platter of kebab-e koobideh (minced lamb) and kebab-e barg (lamb fillet). Freshly made flatbread arrived at the table, instantly appealing to our young diners. For children, a half portion of jujeh kebab with a side salad hits the sweet spot.

Finishing Touches

We wrapped up with traditional cardamom tea, fragrant and soothing, though our attention inevitably shifted to Cyrus’s needs. While

Cost and practicalities

For a meal for three, including starters and mains, expect to pay £20–£30, excellent value for authentic Persian flavours served with care. Bathrooms are compact and lack baby-changing facilities, so a little preparation ensures a smooth visit.
