If you’ve got a little LEGO lover in the house, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself at Legoland Windsor at some point. For us, it was practically a pilgrimage. Little C (our resident master builder) has been plotting this trip for months, inspired by Half-Asleep Chris on YouTube. I was just hoping for good coffee, short queues, and no dramatic meltdowns from him or me.
A weekend in Windsor
We made a weekend of it and stayed at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel, right in the heart of Windsor. It overlooks the castle, which thrilled Little C, who was adamant the whole thing was made out of LEGO bricks. (Honestly, I didn’t have the heart to correct him, who doesn’t want to believe the King lived in a giant LEGO palace?)
First impressions
After a decent hotel breakfast – a must if you don’t want to bankrupt yourself on theme-park snacks – we made the short drive to Legoland. The entrance is a riot of colour, with massive LEGO sculptures that practically dare you not to smile.
Within minutes, Little C was racing toward Miniland, and honestly, so was I. This miniature world is full of tiny cities, landmarks, and scenes built from millions of bricks. Big Ben, the London Eye, and the Statue of Liberty – all in perfectly engineered miniature. It’s like a global sightseeing tour without the jet lag.
Ride highlights (and mum-friendly tips)
- The Dragon – a rollercoaster that’s just scary enough for kids and just tame enough for nervous parents.
- LEGO NINJAGO The Ride – where you basically throw ninja moves at a screen to defeat villains. Highly recommended for stress relief.
- Driving School – where kids get to drive tiny LEGO cars. C was thrilled. I was terrified – it felt like a glimpse of my future driving lessons with him at 17.
Final thoughts
Legoland Windsor is one of those places that really does live up to the hype – provided you plan ahead. Go early, take snacks, wear comfy shoes, and brace yourself for lots of “just one more ride” negotiations. We left exhausted, slightly sunburned, but very happy.

Staying comfortable
Legoland Windsor is vast, and exploring the park involves a lot of walking. Ensuring comfort for the whole family is key to a successful day.
- Wear Comfortable Footwear: Opt for well-broken-in shoes that have a good arch support. Choose trainers or cushioned sandals for comfort.
- Plan for Breaks: Take regular breaks to rest, especially if you’re with young children.
- Extra Tips: Bring extra socks to keep feet dry and comfortable. Footwear designed for walking will help prevent fatigue.
Keeping kids entertained
While Legoland Windsor is full of exciting rides, long queues can sometimes test a child’s patience. Thankfully, the park has incorporated interactive stations along the queue lines to keep kids entertained while they wait.
- LEGO film screenings
- Popular TV episodes
- Play areas where kids can burn off some energy
Wrapping Up
We ended our day with the Haunted House Monster Party. Then, we experienced the thrilling Flight of the Sky Lion. This Augmented Reality (A.R.) ride was a perfect finale, blending creative visuals with immersive effects.
How many rides can you experience in a day?
On our visit, we managed to experience around ten different attractions. The longest wait was for the Flight of the Sky Lion. It took just under an hour. The overall experience was well worth it. We planned ahead and used the queue entertainment. This helped us maximize our time and enjoy a full day of fun.
- Location: Windsor, UK
- Top Attractions: Dragon Rollercoaster, LEGO Ninjago Ride, Flight of the Sky Lion
- Best for Ages: 3-12 years old
- Walking Tips: Wear comfortable footwear; plan for breaks
- Queue Entertainment: LEGO films, TV episodes, play areas
Planning for multiple days
By allocating several days for your visit, you avoid the need to rush through the park. It lets you fully enjoy each attraction, reduces stress, and allows you to prioritise popular rides. Seasonal events and special performances are easier to enjoy with a multi-day plan.
- Advance Booking: Secure multi-day tickets in advance to save money and ensure availability.
- Accommodation: Stay at a nearby hotel to reduce travel time and fatigue.
- Itinerary Planning: Flexible itinerary allows for spontaneity while covering must-see attractions.
- Rest Days: Schedule downtime between park visits to rest and recharge.
Food prices and service
Food prices are higher than average theme parks. Staff numbers can be low, so expect longer waits at peak times. Despite this, the food is varied and of good quality.
Exclusive LEGO items
Visitors can find exclusive LEGO sets and mini-figures only available at Legoland Windsor. These include:
- Exclusive Sets themed around the park rides
- Limited Editions celebrating events or anniversaries

A royal encore
Our LEGO-filled day didn’t end there. The morning after, we explored Windsor Castle. Little C imagined knights and dragons battling in the ancient halls. The Changing of the Guard ceremony added a touch of royal splendour, and we paid our respects to Queen Elizabeth II.
