Bunny Hutch Playset review, a toddler-friendly toy that teaches gentle care

Bunny hutch playset review: toddler sized, parent approved

Three-year-olds have a special talent for loving animals with the enthusiasm of a Disney princess, and sometimes they hug with the force of a small hydraulic press. They scoop up anything soft, arms locked, little fists determined not to lose their new best friend. It is why, in old childhood photos of me, my rabbit Penny always looked permanently startled, and why a plush bunny is, frankly, the safer option these days.

This Bunny Hutch Playset from Our Generation is perfect for parents of toddlers who want a pet without the hay trails and chewed furniture.

Age suitability: perfect for little hands

Designed for ages 3+, the playset is ideal for toddlers learning about gentle care. Parents can feel reassured that the plush bunny and chunky accessories are toddler-safe and easy to handle.

What’s included in the Bunny Hutch Playset

Playset contents:
  • Soft plush bunny, sized for toddler hands
  • Sturdy hutch with colourful look-out windows
  • Door that opens and shuts with a click
  • Mini bowls for food and water
  • Toy food including lettuce, celery, carrots, an apple and radishes

All accessories are chunky and easy for little hands to manage, minimising the risk of losing pieces under the sofa.

Durability and safety: built for energetic toddlers

This bunny withstands enthusiastic cuddles, vigorous “feeding,” and the occasional attempt to tuck it into bed for a nap. Unlike a real pet, it does not try to escape when the affection becomes a bit too committed. The hutch is sturdy enough to survive rough toddler play, and the plush material is soft and safe for little hands.

Educational benefits: learning through play

Beyond being adorable, this playset encourages:

  • Imaginative play – toddlers can create their own bunny adventures
  • Responsibility – feeding, tucking in, and caring for the toy
  • Fine motor skills – opening doors, placing food, handling bowls
  • Social skills – sharing with siblings or friends

It’s a gentle introduction to caring for animals, minus the mess and risk of scratches.

A toddler’s verdict: edited with commentary from Cyrus

“I got a rabbit hutch toy and it is my favourite thing. It comes with a bunny, a little house and lots of things to feed him. His name is Bunny Rabbit and I can touch him from the windows of his cage. His house is strong and the door opens and shuts when I do it. I put all the bits inside so they do not get lost. My big sister loves it too, but it is mine. I take care of the bunny every day and he sleeps in his house and sometimes in bed with me. It is a very good toy.”

Price and availability: Christmas-ready gift

At £26.99 from Smyths, the Bunny Hutch Playset is fairly priced for a toy that provides independent entertainment long enough for parents to enjoy a warm coffee. It comes ready to gift, with no assembly required, making it ideal for Christmas presents under the tree.

Final verdict: parent-approved

The Our Generation Bunny Hutch and Accessories Playset delivers exactly what it promises: imaginative play, gentle care, and a safe, toddler-friendly toy that encourages responsibility. It is a charming, practical choice for parents looking to delight little ones this festive season.

This is a nice toy that my 3 and 6 year old enjoy playing with. They think “it’s so cute.” The quality of bunny, hatch and vegetables are great.
