Family review: Atrium Prestige Hotel Rhodes, Greece

Rhodes

If there’s one thing I’ve learned since becoming a midlife mum, it’s that holidays aren’t just about sun loungers and fruity cocktails. They’re about resetting, reflecting and sometimes, rediscovering who you are in between school runs and work emails. Our stay at Atrium Prestige on the quiet southern tip of Rhodes gave me everything I needed. It offered even more, with bubbles on arrival.

The arrival: marble, midnight and Champagne

After an hour’s transfer from Rhodes Airport, we arrived to a reception that practically gleamed in the moonlight. The night manager greeted us warmly, Champagne flutes in hand. No tacky all-inclusive wristbands here, just a quiet nod to understated luxury. That icy glass of bubbly was exactly what my travel-weary self needed.

The room: Whirlpool and wine

Whisked away by buggy to our garden bungalow, we were greeted by a chilled bottle of red wine, a cold platter and a fully stocked free mini bar (Pringles, protein bars, Coke, sparkling water, they had thought of everything). Little C made a beeline for the whirlpool bath, and I mentally committed to never staying anywhere without one again.

The vibe: calm, considered, quietly indulgent

If you’re looking for thumping music or bustling tavernas, look elsewhere. Atrium Prestige is peaceful to the point of poetic. No windmills, no goatherds, not even a cricket chirping. Just the sound of waves, birdsong and, occasionally, my son’s delighted squeals when he spotted a lizard or frog scuttling through the garden at night.

“Little C squealed every time he spotted a lizard. Honestly, I was half delighted, half relieved the wildlife was bigger than me in patience.”

Food and drink: less waste, more flavour

Breakfast was a feast: fresh salmon, spinach and eggs, sparkling wine, and staff who remembered my son’s ice bowl order every morning. I loved that portions were sensibly sized to avoid waste – a small but thoughtful touch. Lunch and dinner didn’t disappoint either, with fish, lamb, steak and our favourite Rhodes wine, Cair Knights Cellar, included in the all-inclusive deal.

Staff: family feel without fuss

Everyone – from gardeners to porters – greeted us with a warm “kalimera.” Our son was spoiled with fresh juice and smiles every morning. Katerina, the legendary operations manager (TripAdvisor reviewers weren’t exaggerating), even surprised him with a private pool room for our last day. It was a gesture we won’t forget.

Facilities: something for everyone

  • Gym: Treadmills, free weights and space to stretch (yes, I actually used it)
  • Pools: Two large ones plus a quiet pool by the chapel if you need peace from splash zones
  • Spa & Theatre: Gorgeous open-air theatre for weddings, plus a tempting spa menu
  • Kids’ fun: Playground, kids’ club, mini golf, table tennis and even a giant chess set

Beach: cocktails with your toes in the waves

A short walk led us to a quiet, rocky beach with a family-friendly sandy stretch next door. Sitting on the rocks, cocktail in hand, with the sea washing over my feet felt like time had hit pause.

Beyond the resort: Lindos adventure

We took the hotel’s recommended coach trip to Lindos. A gentle 45-minute ride, an uphill walk to the Acropolis (pack water!), a wander through whitewashed streets and we were back at the pool by late afternoon. Highly recommended if you want a day trip without hiring a car.

Evenings: rock bands and Greek nights

The resident band played requests, Greek Night was light-hearted, and the mini disco for kids – though not Little C’s scene – had plenty of takers.

“I never thought I’d find a resort where my son and I could both feel completely relaxed. Atrium Prestige nailed it.”
