Review: One Of The Best Eco-friendly Baking Sets For Children

Eco-friendly baking

Eco-friendly baking is super fun for kids and it’s exciting too, like drawing or painting. Mixing all the different ingredients together and then decorating what you’ve made is a great way of keeping the momentum going during lockdown. Trust me, I know!

Now most children love to cook with their family, and Cyrus is a big fan of the kitchen thanks to his pesar khaleh Esi (a sous chef by trade). While H and I have whiled away the working from home hours at our laptops, Cyrus and Esi have whipped up some pretty amazing culinary creations.

Eco-advocates

Eco-advocates on the home-front As a family, we’re always looking to make smarter and greener choices when buying new gifts for Cyrus. And we’re really keen on resources focused on green living for our home such as Dantoy’s “I’m Green” line of bioplastic toys which are not only 100% recyclable, but also made from around 90% sugarcane, a sustainable raw material.

11-Piece Baking Set

We recently put their 11-piece baking set through its paces in our kitchen whilst encouraging Cyrus, four, to bake and have fun. While we used the set as cookie cutters, it can also be used with modelling dough for younger ones from two upwards.

Great for making shortbread The biscuit cutters are made of pastel-coloured bioplastic with no sharp edges. They are great for making crunchy shortbread (which goes perfectly with mummy’s favourite, lemon posset!) You get a good range of shapes with the set (a man, heart, star, butterfly, pig and train). While the dough creations initially looked a little on the small side, once baked, they were just perfect! Cyrus loved getting to grips with the rolling pin, which was just his size.

He also found the more complex shapes were just as easy to cut out as the simpler ones. Once the biscuits were in the oven, all of the utensils were easily cleaned in our dishwasher.

Our Verdict

All in all, this baking set ticked all the boxes for baking and playing with. Dantoy leads the way with its bioplastics. For anyone who isn’t aware, the manufacture of bioplastics reduces carbon emissions which is a really good thing.

Bioplastic made of sugarcane is a 100% sustainable raw material, while traditional plastic is made from crude oil. Minimising the greenhouse effect Sugarcane absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, thereby minimising the greenhouse effect. For each kilo of manufactured bioplastic, 3.09 kg of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere.

Dantoy’s packaging is made from recycled cardboard and the toys are made to last. They are approved for contact with foods, microwave safe, dishwasher safe, frost-proof and contains no toxins. We can all be eco-friendly and by choosing brands who care will make a difference. The Dantoy Bio-Toy 11 Piece Baking Line costs £23.99 from Amazon.
