Having only been a blogger for a short time combined with the fact that I’m a new mum over 40 who doesn’t drink, I don’t often get asked to many evening blogging soirees.
So I was delighted when Have To Love boutique in Hawthorn Road, Gosforth, Newcastle, invited me along to its networking event with a difference.
Now having moved to the area just over a year ago, you could say that I’m still exploring what’s on offer because there’s now just so much on my doorstep.
While I’m now a regular at Adrianos across the road, I hadn’t visited Have To Love or the hugely popular Chaia tea bar.
The designer fashion boutique was on my list of places to go, but I’d shied away from visiting because while I like a lot of the latest fashion trends, they don’t always like me! And as any mum knows, it’s also hard to clothes shop with a toddler in tow.
So with my better half, H, willing to babysit, I signed up for a VIP evening which promised everything from discounts to sweet treats and even a spot of pampering from Beauty at Gosforth Park.
As first ‘official’ blogging engagements go, I wasn’t disappointed as I was met with a whole host of goodies, including doughnuts from Proven Goods Co and cakes courtesy of Chaia tea bar, opposite.
Having just finished a full day at work, it was the perfect pick-me-up and I was certainly ready for a bit of ‘me-time’ where I could browse the lovely garments on display without a small child tugging at my legs.
I was warmly welcomed on arrival and received discount vouchers before being treated to a spot of pampering thanks to Beth from Beauty at Gosforth Park.
The store, which is hugely popular online, has been featured among the 50 Best Boutiques in The Daily Telegraph and named in Draper’s Top 100 Inspiring Independents, as well as Vogue’s 100 Best Shops outside of London.
As I sat having my nails buffed, polished and beautified, I was able to soak up my surroundings and realised how important reclaiming some ‘me-time’ actually is as a new mum over 40.
As someone who used to be quite partial to a gel manicure prior to giving birth, it dawned on me that I hadn’t had one since before little C was born, so it really was a HUGE treat.
During the evening the girls also demonstrated the latest non-surgical face and body treatment from CACI which targets wrinkles, acne, blemishes and stretch-marks. Definitely one to explore later to get rid of my frown lines.
After a spot of networking with some of the lovely bloggers who’d travelled from as far afield as Middlesbrough to be at the event, it was time to return home and pick up my mummy duties where I’d left off.
Have to Love is now well and truly on my radar and I will certainly be back in store soon, but next time I’ll be taking H along with his wallet.
In the meantime, I’m just admiring my nails and wondering how long they’re going to last!
