Happy Organic September all! A month that aims to help us all become more eco-savvy. We used the time to put three natural baby skincare products to the test.
Today’s generation of new mums and dads are much more aware of the environmental consequences of using disposable nappies and are choosing organic eco-nappies, biodegradable baby wipes, and hypoallergenic skincare options that are better for the environment.
Having a baby at 40 has certainly given me a fresh perspective on life and as a result, H and I have become more eco-savvy when it comes to our weekly grocery shop game-plan. We’re always looking at ways to detoxify our fast-paced lifestyle.
Its no secret that going organic is trendy when it comes to food, but the latest revolution is in baby skincare products.
Since birth, little C has had very sensitive skin. Initially the healthcare visitor suggested we use hydramol ointment, but the huge tub of thick, greasy wax wasn’t the most pleasant of baby products I’ve ever come across – and it was harder to clean the bath after using it too!
The Organic Babies range by Green People have a wide variety of organic baby products including organic baby wash and shampoo, rescue balms and scent-free sun lotion for children. They are available to buy from Waitrose.
Green People products mix herbs such as lavender, calendula and chamomile so that products are gentle and natural on delicate skin, eczema-friendly and free from harsh chemicals. The sun lotion is also fully recyclable with it being made from renewable sugar cane packaging and ingredients are farmed on sustainable land – so it is completely carbon neutral.
We tested the soothing baby salve on little C’s skin and the nourishing shea butter is rich in vitamins A & E and essential fatty acids to provide protective, healing properties for use on dry, sore and sensitive skin.
What makes Organic Babies products so special is that all the ingredients protect, soothe, nourish and calm even the most sensitive skin. The products don’t contain any harsh synthetic chemicals, which is why they are especially suited to allergy prone skin. The calendula, chamomile, rosehip oil and shea butter found in Organic Babies products have been specifically sourced and help ease the symptoms of skin allergies in babies and toddlers.
We also tried the baby wash and shampoo which is really gentle and contains cleansing properties to retain natural skin and scalp oils to prevent little C’s skin drying out. It is SLS-free and contains natural key plant actives aloe vera, chamomile and yucca to heal, soothe and moisturise. The products are suitable for daily use, certified 83% organic and come in two varieties – scent-free and lavender – which really relaxed little C before bedtime.
The final product we tested was the mum and baby rescue balm. Calendula has been used for generations in herbal medicine and is renowned for its wonderfully moisturising and soothing properties. This product is perfect for soothing eczema, nappy rash and inflamed skin and provides all the nourishment and care little C needs for his skin – and mummy too.
We want to give little C the best start in life and the Green People products reassure us as parents and comfort him. We look forward to seeing them extend the range further over the coming years.
