Newcastle mumpreneur nominated for a prestigious national children’s award
A Newcastle mumpreneur has been nominated for a prestigious national children’s award.
The ‘What’s On 4 Kids’ Awards were launched a decade ago to celebrate the UK’s best activities, class leaders, party providers, places and activity-based products for children.
Jenna Davy, 37, of Gosforth, Newcastle, who has two children, Seb, aged three and one-year-old Felicity, received the nomination for her work setting up The Baby Hub music, movement and sensory (M+Ms) classes.
Jenna’s business model is just one of a record number of nominations from experts, parents, carers and parents-to- be. The Baby Hub allows parents and carers to spend quality time with their little ones and each other through weekly music, movement and sensory play classes.
Jenna initially set the classes up after the birth of her son in 2013, with support from her husband, Chris, PNE Enterprise, Plainsight consultancy and Facebook groups such as The Inspire Network, North Tyneside Ladybirds and Northumberland Mumpreneurs. All groups of like-minded business women.
She said: “It was going to baby classes myself that got me out the house with Seb when he was little. I realised just how powerful spending dedicated time with my son could be and saw a huge difference in his sociability and development.
“I wanted to be able to offer that support to others, hence setting up the classes. I saw the benefits for myself in terms of sharing experiences with others and for my son.”
Jenna, who works as a Learning and Development Business Partner part-time, added: “I gained an Early Years Level 3 qualification and trained in baby massage and Rhythmkids before using my training background and experience to set up The Baby Hub.
“I wanted to design a professionally delivered programme focused on learning through play, where parents had the chance to socialise and feel comfortable.”
“I have structured my sessions so parents can replicate activities if they wish at home as I know how hard it can be knowing what to do with a newborn. I did all of this using my maternity leave and during spare time.”
The Baby Hub is nominated in the Best Independent Activity for Under 5s – North Category. This means Jenna is now through to the national voting stage.
Jenna added: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be nominated for the award for my work with The Baby Hub. It’s been a huge achievement for me to see it grow over time.”
“Setting up a new business is no mean feat when you have little ones, but I’d definitely encourage other mums to think about setting up on their own.
“I now want to provide an opportunity for mums to do just that by offering licences with The Baby Hub to enable them to run their own business.
“There is the option to gain work-life balance (I get to spend more quality time with my children), gain a great income and work in a rewarding environment – without starting from scratch like I did. You are joining an established and expanding brand with on-going support.”
“The Baby Hub has gone from strength to strength since 2013. I’ve expanded from classes in Jesmond, Newcastle to Ponteland in Northumberland. I’m also looking forward to launching a class in North Shields later this year.
“I have already been part of a group of businesses offering free family fun days in North Shields via The Family Hub and look forward to bringing my classes there when they open later this year.”
Mum-of- two Ami Taylor attended the class for a year. She said: “I joined The Baby Hub when my son Teddy was only six weeks old. We both loved the class – Jenna is so friendly and full of knowledge and experience. The class is really enjoyable. I highly recommend it!”
A spokesman for the awards, said: “The wealth of nominations this year reflects the huge support from the nation’s parents for these awards and their eagerness to reward the very best!”
“The awards cover 26 different categories ranging from Best Pre or Post Natal Activity to Industry Champion of the Year; (which will be judged by The Children’s Activities Association Board of Directors) and including the new ‘Best Product’ category – showcasing the very best products supporting and promoting children’s activities.”
The awards programme has been sponsored by headliner Strider Bike, hosts NatWest and STA and Konfidence supporting nominations and voting and media partner NowBaby.co.uk.
Parents can log on to any of the award-winning on-line directories:
www.whatson4kidsparties.co.uk to vote for their favourites from all of the nominees which have qualified.
More than 100,000 votes are anticipated this year and voting closes on July 3, 2017.
The winners will be announced at a glitzy prize-giving ceremony on October 4 in London. Everyone who votes or nominates someone will also be in with a chance to win two VIP tickets to attend the awards ceremony and meet the winners, finalists, sponsors and VIPs.
